Lash policy: why can’t a lash artist accept infill from other lash artists

GOLLEE Pro Eyelash Extension

There are many skilled lash artists out there who can create beautiful, clean lash sets. Unfortunately, there are just as many careless technicians who are unconcerned about their clients’ lash health and take no pride in their work. In the past, the majority of the time a client has come from another salon, it has been less than satisfactory work that lash artists had difficulty filling.

Because of the natural shedding cycle, everyone’s eyelashes will eventually fall out independently. After getting a full set of eyelash extensions, it is recommended by the lash artist that infills be performed every two to three weeks to keep the set looking as full as it did when it was first applied.

The optimal time to have the lash extensions infilled is every two to three weeks; however, when new customers with lashes from other salons (or developed by other lash technicians) wish to schedule infills, most lash artists would advise a removal and a new full set.

Eyelashes undergo a continuous cycle in which they grow, mature, and eventually fall out. Because lash extensions are applied to natural lashes, new clients that are getting lash extensions often believe that having lash extensions will cause them to lose their natural lashes. On the other hand, this is not the case; it is very normal for people to undergo natural shedding and for some of their eyelashes to come out.

What are lash infills?

After two to three weeks of regular shedding, the areas left by your lash extensions can be filled in either single or fan lashes using lash infills. Having the lash extensions infilled at the recommended intervals every two to three weeks is recommended.

Lash artists are trained to fill in any gaps that may appear in their customers’ eyelash extensions. Clients won’t need to change the lash extensions or acquire a new set if they obtain infills because they will keep the natural lashes fuller daily. Obtaining infills might help cut costs and the amount of time needed for the application.

It’s possible that you are not aware of this, but the length of time that eyelash extensions look natural and feel good depends on how often clients’ natural lashes shed. So, getting infills may also be necessary at times, particularly if clients want to preserve those lash extensions without putting a strain on their financial resources.

Yet, here is one of the questions that are asked the most frequently concerning getting infills: – Why aren’t lash artists allowed to accept infills from the work of other lash artists?

Over the years, customers who already know about receiving infills have consistently asked about this issue. The truth is that some lash artists accept infills from other lash artists, but the majority of them just do not wish to do so for the following reasons:

Each eyelash extension salon is unique, as is each lash technician working within a given salon. There is a wide range of variations in adhesive and procedure based on the quality of the extensions. There is a wide range of expertise and capability among lash artists working in the various salons. In other cases, lash artists have varied expertise in the style of lash extensions and even the method by which they perform the procedure. Most lash salons have guidelines requiring “not taking infills from the work of other lash artists.” As was just mentioned, most lash artists do not accept infills because these factors significantly impact the decision.

The procedure for making an application:

One of the challenges that many lash artists face during the lash application process is insufficient isolation, which, along with improper application, leads to poor eyelash extension retentions. Consequently, customers who had a negative experience during the application process may choose not to return to their former lash shop for infills. However, this does not imply that customers of one lash salon can simply walk into another and ask for infills if they are dissatisfied with the work performed by their previous lash artist.

Some lash artists may contemplate doing lash infills using the work of other lash artists, but doing so requires a lot of time and patience. If lash artists are familiar with the other artist’s work and confident in their ability to collaborate, they are free to move forward with the process.

The styling:

Most customers who get their lashes done are unaware of this fact, yet the styling used by most lash artists can vary greatly from one artist to the next. With sufficient practice and the necessary level of talent, it is not overly difficult to replicate another artist’s style so long as the lash extensions are applied properly. Nonetheless, most lash artists report feeling confined when doing the style of another lash artist.

Because you depend on the initial application that the first lash artist did, it might be difficult at times to follow your style of applying false eyelashes when you are working as a lash artist. Lash artist needs to make sure that their customer is happy with the work that they have done, but it is even more important for them to do the very best work that they possibly can. Hence, if you are not comfortable working with the work styles of others, it is recommended that you do not accept infills from the work of other lash artists.

Application of the product:

The good news is that the majority of adhesives currently available on the market include components that are comparable to one another. However, various lash salons require different lash extension necessities. However, despite this, each lash artist uses unique adhesives, lash extensions, shampoo, and other eyelash extension kits necessary for the application process.

If lash artists have access to a comprehensive inventory of lash extension kits and products, it will likely not be difficult for them to finish another artist’s work. But not all lash salons have these numerous vast selections of lashes, which is why you can anticipate that this is one of the reasons why lash artists won’t accept infills from other lash artists. Thus, give this some serious thought before completing another artist’s work.

In general, the majority of lash artists run into the following issues when they take lash infills from the work of other lash artists, which is why the majority of them prefer not to do so:

  • An excessive amount of use of adhesives.
  • The individual lashes have become twisted up with one another and cannot be detached.
  • The synthetic lashes employed are extraordinarily full, lengthy, and coarse in appearance.
  • The client’s natural lashes are severely damaged and very scarce.
  • The customer was under the impression that they had individual eyelash extensions, but in reality, they had cluster lashes applied.

Reviewing the lash extensions from other clients takes time and patience, so lash clients elected to do lash infills to save time. But, this strategy won’t work when a lash stylist finds some of the problems described above, as they need to assess everything before beginning the infill.

It is virtually impossible to infill, make the necessary repairs, and place an entirely new set of eyelashes on someone in such a short amount of time if their eyelashes reflect any of the scenarios that have been described.

Three problems when infilling other lash artists’ extensions

They Used an Excessive Amount of Glue.

This is a telltale sign of a lash technician who either lacks adequate training or is working under extreme pressure.

When eyelash extensions are applied properly, only one extension should be placed on one of the natural lashes that are strong and healthy…

The procedure can be described as follows:

  • The natural lash must be separated before continuing.
  • The extension has a very thin layer of high-quality adhesive covering it.
  • The natural lashes will have an extension put to them.
  • Before moving on to the next lash, a brief period is set aside to allow the previous one to dry.

This method takes a lot of time but gives the lashes a ‘natural’ look and feels. The lashes won’t feel heavy, and you’ll be able to comb through them with a lash comb just as easily as before. The amount of glue utilized is extremely minute, making it nearly impossible to detect or even feel its presence.

Because it does not place any additional strain on the natural lash, applying lashes is also the safest way to do it. As the natural lash reaches the end of its growth cycle and falls out (exactly what you want), it won’t pull any additional lashes out with it because it has reached the end of its growth cycle. Brilliant!

Though again, lash technicians with inadequate training or those under pressure from the business owner to produce as many sets of extensions as possible in the quickest amount of time can frequently take significant shortcuts…

They will apply excessive amounts of glue, not take the time to separate individual lashes, and apply many lashes at once, enabling them to provide a thick and full appearance in a shorter amount of time.

The troubles start soon after when your natural lashes begin to fall out (as they would even if you didn’t get extensions), but because they’re clumped together with glue, they get stuck in place. This is a normal part of the process. The remaining natural lashes are subjected to increased tension due to the additional weight of these glue and lash clumps, which ultimately results in an earlier loss of natural lashes.

This results in the natural lashes being torn away from the eyelid in a very literal sense. Some people will experience irritation, while others will simply see a lighter appearance of their natural eyelashes.

Natural lashes are damaged.

Extensions that are applied with an excessive amount of glue or extensions placed on natural lashes that are unable to maintain their weight contributes to the damage that occurs to the natural lashes.

Everyone has a unique set of lashes, and if a client’s natural lashes are short and sparse, we won’t apply a long, thick extension to them since there wouldn’t be enough contact area to form a strong attachment. And the weight of the extension on the original lash could result in premature lash fall.

The point is that if the natural lashes are excessively damaged, we recommend waiting a few weeks before receiving a fresh set of extensions to give the natural lashes time to heal before continuing the process.

If the client’s natural lashes have been destroyed and they still have extensions that aren’t quite right, we suggest they remove them at home to save the natural lashes that are still healthy.

Extensions too thick or too long

As was mentioned earlier, it can be a significant issue if the extensions are applied in a manner that is either too thick or too heavy. This is because even if applied correctly, with one extension placed on each natural lash that is in good health, they can still cause premature lash loss due to the weight, or the extensions can lose their bond due to an inadequate contact area.

We’ve gained a solid understanding of what a natural lash can hold after a lot of experience applying lashes and having long-term repeat clients. This helps lash artists keep the natural lash healthy and eliminate any undue pressure…

A professional lash artist would never put a 14mm 6D extension on a natural lash that was small and fine since there is a good probability that either the bond would fail or the natural lash would fall out earlier than it should have. Because of this, they would never place a 14mm 6D extension on a natural lash.

They would recommend a new set rather than infills because, let’s say, the client has naturally short lashes; if the client’s previous lash technician added heavy 14mm long, thick single mink lashes, they might see that the natural lash should only hold a maximum of a 10mm extension, so there will be a disparity between the 14mm and 10mm lashes… So, they would recommend a new set rather than infills because of this.

It depends on the situation’s specifics whether or not this will appear appropriate. For instance, this may be OK if they are going for a baby doll look.

If a client is interested in scheduling an appointment with you but is unsure of the condition of their lashes, you should ask them to give you a photo and discuss the available treatment options with them.

Or, if you are certain that they will need to be removed, let’s talk about the procedure for removing eyelash extensions…

If you conclude that you wish to establish a firm policy, you may get started by following these steps

Document all of your guidelines in writing.

As you implement a new policy, ensure it is communicated to your customers via in-salon signs, online platforms such as social media and websites, and new client intake forms. Before they make a reservation, you must make it clear to the customer that you do not now provide the service in question.

Build a Unique Service.

You don’t want to lose these new customers. Therefore, you should provide a unique menu item that caters exclusively to the needs of this demographic of customers. You might provide a free consultation covering various topics, such as the removal process and booking a full set. The removal service should be booked by customers first, followed by the whole set. It is recommended that this be broken up into two different appointments.

Obey the Guidelines Set for You.

Putting a new regulation into effect may be challenging, but you must remain persistent in your rules and practices. It is not to engage in negotiations with customers that you create policies. These are the parameters within which your company must operate to function at its optimum level. If you find a particularly combative client, she is probably not the ideal fit for you anyhow, and you can recommend her to another local salon in a kind and professional manner.

Final thoughts

There is a common misconception among lash extension customers that refusing to accept infills on lash extensions performed by other artists is a straightforward method of generating additional revenue. However, this is not the case. Many lash artists take little care in their work, and all they want is to have a client, but several eyelash specialists are skilled and competent and can make beautiful, clean sets of lashes. However, several eyelash specialists forget to put their best into their work. Because of this, lash clients end up with less than satisfying results; as a result, they prefer to hunt for a new lash artist to do their infills rather than return to their previous lash artist.
